Kina Gbezhgomi Child and Family Services (KGCFS) is a designated Child Welfare Service delivering Child Protection Services within seven member First Nations in the Districts of Sudbury and Manitoulin. KGCFS honours and supports our families’ and community’s inherent authority to care for their children based on unity, traditions, values, beliefs, and customs. Wellness Coordinator
Contract Position ending: March 31, 2024
Starting Salary: $46,561 Annually
OVERVIEW
The Wellness Coordinator will support the wellness of those involved with KGCFS (children, youth, caregivers, volunteers, and employees) and will ensure everyone is educated to recognize systemic traumas due to child welfare interventions or those that may pose a risk for individuals to be re-traumatized as survivors due to adverse childhood experiences or oppression such as colonization and residential school inter-generational effects.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree is desirable from an accredited university in an Indigenous program or other discipline deemed related to the position is preferrable or a minimum of two-year college diploma from an accredited college in a discipline related to Health or Anishinaabe Studies or
An acceptable combination of education, training / certification and / or life-long learning experiences relevant to the position may be considered. *Education: high-school diploma or certified GED / training corresponds to a minimum of two (2) courses successfully completed and relevant to the duties of the position (e.g., courses taken as part of continuing education), and experience: corresponds to a minimum of three (3) years of experience in the delivery of services to Anishinaabe children and their families, health promotion, fitness, or health professional (nutrition, community-based programming, addictions, etc.).
Experience in working within an Anishinaabe Child and Family Well-Being Services is preferred or proven experience in working with Anishinabek people.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & ABILITIES
Ability to present self as a forward and critical thinker, energetic, motivated, creative, organized, relationship builder, and a leader.
The ability to speak the Anishinaabe language is a definite asset and / or willingness for continual learning. Preference will be given to applicants who can speak or write Ojibway, provided they have skills, ability, and qualifications to do the job.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Given the traditional practices of the Anishinabek, from time-to-time exposure to wood smoke and the burning of sacred medicines, including tobacco, sweet grass, sage, or cedar, may occur within the work setting.
Must be willing to comply by KGCFS COVID-19 Vaccination Policy.
