Reports To: Manager, True Self / Supervisor, Outreach Services Starting Hourly: $21.96
We are seeking an Outreach Peer Worker who will be responsible for promoting empowerment and self-determination of others through non-judgmental listening, help with person-centred goal setting, problem-solving, assessing crisis-risk, and offering referrals to other community supports. The successful candidate will support youth and adults, women and men within our community who are homeless, unemployed, or underemployed by reaching out to provide services to individuals within the community where they are at, and in a safe environment. The Outreach Peer Worker must be sensitive to the needs of the client population who may have multiple barriers, which extend beyond employment.
What you’ll do in the role
Street Outreach for wellness checks and meeting with participants to assist with intake assessments and safety plans in North Bay Office, Mattawa, and Sturgeon Falls.
Assist individuals navigating access to government programs and systems (e.g., Ontario Works, Ontario Disability Support Program, child welfare, community housing).
Make referrals to local and culturally appropriate agencies, programs, and services to meet immediate needs (e.g., housing, access to elders, mental health supports, etc.).
Ensure individuals privacy by only sharing information for which informed consent has been
Work collaboratively with participants, team members, and co-workers to design and deliver a 4-week training workshop for Peer Workers supporting individuals that identify addiction
Communicate and work collaboratively with participants, team members, co-workers, and the community, attend team meetings, and meet with supervisors to discuss performance.
Act as a coach and mentor and help participants to set goals and work toward developing
Work closely with participants to address problems and answer questions, gather and provide information to brainstorm solutions, and connect participants to resources in the community.
Initiate, establish, and maintain relationships with participants while developing trust and rapport sharing and discussing common experiences with participants and help to build a collective sense of community for participants, supporting them to create meaningful lives in the community.
Responsible for planning, organizing, developing, leading, and facilitating activities, including workshops to meet individual’s needs.
Complete any training required for the
Participating in the evaluation of program activities, including collecting statistics and

What you bring to the table
Must have Diploma in Indigenousness Wellness Addiction Prevention (IWAP), Social Service Worker (SSW), Addiction Intervention Counselling and/or Addictions/Mental Health and/or equivalent experience.
Lived experience with Mental Health, Addiction, or
Experience in networking with a variety of community service agencies and
Experience working within anti-oppression
Experience designing, delivering, and facilitating workshops and
Verbal and written communication skills in both official languages (English and French) considered an asset.
Knowledge and understanding of Harm Reduction
Knowledge of True Self Debwewendizwin Program and possess comprehensive knowledge of mental health and additional issues and the effects of trauma with an understanding of diverse cultures and issues.
Knowledge of Traditional Ojibway Culture is considered an
Respect for Indigenous culture and willingness to learn
Strong skills to assist individuals in problem solving to address their employment barriers and develop a realistic plan of action to reach their desired goals.
Well-developed group facilitation skills (including the use of Power Point) and ability to develop employment-related materials.
Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal
Demonstrated excellent analytical and problem solving and research
