Kina Gbezhgomi Child and Family Services (KGCFS) is a designated Child Welfare Service delivering Child Protection Services within seven member First Nations in the Districts of Sudbury and Manitoulin. KGCFS honours and supports our families’ and communities’ inherent authority to care for their children based on unity, traditions, values, beliefs, and customs. Preference will be given to Anishinaabe Candidates (please self-identify).

Education Team Lead

(1) Full Time- Contract until March 31, 2024 (possibility of extension)

Salary Range: $ 72,108 – $88,682 Annually

OVERVIEW:
Working under the supervision of the Service Manager, the Educational Team Lead will provide leadership, guidance, coaching, mentoring, support, and regular guidance and direction to the education team. The Education Team Lead coordinates the efforts of the team and ensures their efforts are in alignment with the agency’s strategic planning, policies, and procedures. The Educational Team Lead will support the education team members and KGCFS service team members to develop and implement re-engagement educational plans and employment and life management/skills training with youth on VYSA (Voluntary Youth Services Agreements) and CCSY (Continued Care for Supports for Youth) Agreements aged 16 to 21 years old and youth who are currently disengaged with formal school systems.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Bachelor of Arts/ Science or related Degree with experience within educational systems or related Diploma combined with a minimum three years of administration experience within the education field.
Registration with the Ontario College of Teachers and direct teaching experience is an asset.
Additional Qualifications in Special Education is strongly recommended.
Knowledge of Policy, evidence of understanding and effectiveness in special education and children in care along with child welfare services and relevant legislation.
Knowledge of Ministry of Education policies, programs along with educational related services and supports provided within the Districts of Sudbury and Manitoulin.
Strong interpersonal skills, effective organizational skills and clear communication skills are assets.
Knowledge and appreciation of Anishinaabemowin language and culture are assets.

RESPONSIBILITIES

With the support of the Service Manager, the Education Team Lead will work with education team members and KGCFS service team members with priority of re-engagement of youth on Voluntary Youth plans and Continued Care for Supports for Youth with KGCFS with formal education and employment training skills programs who are currently disengaged with formal school systems.
Review with KGCFS service teams and Education team educational plans for youth in care whereby gaps in educational achievements and services and supports are identified.
Develop and foster effective and respectful professional relationships with KGCFS service team members serving youth in care and youth on voluntary services agreements, educational staff and First Nation/s representatives.
Demonstrate an understanding of Anishinaabe-Focused Cross Curricular Learning, Numeracy, Literacy and Educational Technology in order to advise and lead the Education Team in these areas.
Provide support for staff on a regular basis in the implementation of the Student-Centered Coaching Model and the Mentor-Coaching Process.
Must possess a valid Ontario’s Driver’s Licence and be willing to travel.
